Racing Rules

Version 2.1 of these Racing Rules, last updated on 25 November 2024.

1. Official Results

1.1 All racing bets shall be settled based on the official declaration of the result of the race as made by the relevant racing authority on the day of the race.

1.2 Once the official result has been declared, the result shall not be affected by subsequent protests or amendments to such result.

1.3 Interim results are indicative only, and bets shall only be resulted based on the official declaration above, unless eligible for Dabble’s Protest Payout. See further details in ‘16. Protest Payouts.’

2. Place Bets

2.1. Where there are 8 or more runners in a race, a place dividend shall be paid on first, second and third places.

2.2. Where there are 7, 6 or 5 runners in a race, a place shall be paid on first and second places only.

2.3. Where there are less than 5 runners in a race, all betting shall be Win only.

2.4. Where a place bet has been placed and subsequent scratchings reduce the field size to 4 or less runners all place bets, and the place portion of each-way bets, will be void and stakes refunded.

3. Abandoned/Postponed and Transferred meetings

3.1 Subject to Rule 4.2, if a meeting is abandoned, transferred to another venue, or postponed to another date, single bets are void, and bets will be refunded. Affected multi bets will be recalculated excluding that event or leg.

3.2 If a 'Futures' event with all-in betting is abandoned, postponed, or transferred from the original date, all bets stand until the completion of the event.

3.3 If a single race is abandoned, all bets placed on that particular race are void, and bets will be refunded. Affected multi bets will be recalculated excluding that event or leg.

4. Acceptance of Bets after Start Time

4.1 If a single bet is inadvertently accepted 10 seconds or more after the official start time of any Harness or Thoroughbred race, the bet shall be deemed to be invalid and will be refunded to the Customer.

4.2 If a single bet is inadvertently accepted after the official start time of any Greyhound race, the bet shall be deemed to be invalid and will be refunded to the Customer.

4.3 Any leg of a multi is deemed void (even if accepted) if the bet is submitted after the official starting time of that leg. In any such instance the remaining leg(s) of the multi will stand.

5. Scratchings

5.1 Bets on scratchings which occur after the declaration of the Final Field will be fully refunded.

5.2 In the event of a field reducing in size from 8 or more runners to 5, 6 or 7 runners, Dabble will pay three dividends on all fixed odds place bets struck prior to the field being reduced. Relevant deductions will be applied.

5.3 In the event of a field reducing in size from 8 or more runners to less than 5 runners after the official scratching time, Dabble will pay three dividends on all fixed odds place bets struck prior to the field being reduced. Relevant deductions will be applied.

5.4 In the event of a field reducing in size from 5, 6 or 7 runners to less than 5 runners, Dabble will pay two dividends on all fixed odds place bets struck prior to the field being reduced. Relevant deductions will be applied.

5.5 All fixed odds place bets are set independently of the win odds.

6. Deductions

6.1 All fixed odds bets may be subject to deductions after placement of a fixed odds bet. These deductions are applied to the face value (expected winnings) of the bet.

6.2 In the case of scratching’s after the declaration of the Final Field, deductions will apply to the face value of winning bets. See Table 6.5 with the exception of Victorian Thoroughbred Races where deductions will be determined by Racing Victoria and can be seen here: https://www.racingvictoria.com.au/wagering/deductions

6.3 Deduction Calculations are specified as a percentage deducted from each dollar of a bet’s winnings.

6.4 In the event that multiple runners are scratched from a race, a combined deduction rate shall be calculated by summing the total of the individual deduction rates as calculated in accordance with the applicable Schedule of Deductions.
For example, if the expected win payout is $500, and there is a total of 10% of win deductions, then the expected payout should be multiplied by 10% to determine the deduction (10% X $500 = $50). In this case the total payout would therefore be $450 ($500 less the deduction of $50).

7.1 In certain jurisdictions for certain sports Dabble is required to lay a bet to win, on any one fixed odds bet (for the fixed odds displayed), a minimum specified amount. The “minimum bet rules” are normally in place from a specified time on the day of the event and are subject to changes from racing bodies (for example any bet on Victorian Metropolitan Thoroughbreds to win up to $2000 will be accepted from 9am).

7.2 If you make a request under the minimum bet limits of a State or Territory, we may request additional documentation from you even if you have provided this previously.

8.5 Notwithstanding any of the above maximum win limits, Dabble reserves the right to limit the total payout to any individual customer(s) on any bet type on any single race.

8.6 Notwithstanding any of the above maximum win limits, the total payout by Dabble to any individual customer(s) across all bets in any 24-hour period is limited to a total of $1,000,000.

8.7 In the event a selection is declared a non-runner after the race or a late scratching is applied after the interim dividend results are published, then Dabble Div exotics are subject to deductions and the final dividend will be applied as the official payout.

9. Racing Multi Bets

9.1 Racing multi bets are selecting runners in different races and combining into a single bet. The odds of the runners are multiplied for the final dividend of the multi bet, and all selections must win for the multi to win.

9.2 In the event of a multi selection(s) being scratched or an event abandoned, the multi will be recalculated to a Single Bet or a multi not including the scratched/abandoned leg.

9.3 In the event of a dead heat in one or more multi legs, standard dead heat rules apply.

9.4 In the event of a selection being scratched in the same race as a multi selection, Dabble reserves the right to apply deductions in accordance with Rule 6.

10. 'Futures' Bets

10.1 Futures Bets are available on selected events.

10.2 All bets struck prior to the Final Field being declared are accepted on an All-In basis (i.e. no refunds will apply for runners not taking their place in the final field and no deductions will apply).

10.3 Bets struck on a before Nominations basis will be eligible for a refund should the selection not be nominated for the race when first nominations close. However, no deductions will apply.

10.4 Regardless of whether a ' Futures event (All in betting) ' has been abandoned, postponed, or transferred from the original date, all bets stand until the completion of the event.

11. Challenge Markets

11.1 Jockey Challenge

11.1.1 For bets on any Jockey, Trainer or Box Challenge to stand, all races scheduled for the race meeting must be run and correct weight declared. If the meeting is postponed or abandoned, all bets on the Jockey Challenge for that meeting will be refunded, unless the result of the market has already been determined.

11.1.2 In the event of a dead heat, points are allocated on a proportionate fractional basis.
2-Way Dead Heat Example: A 2-way dead heat for the Win would see each of the winners split the points received for 1st and 2nd (3+2=5 points) meaning they would each receive 2.5 points.
3-Way Dead Heat Example: A 3-way dead heat for 2nd would see the winners split the points received for 2nd and 3rd (2+1=3 points) meaning they would all receive 1 point.

11.2 Trainer Challenge

11.2.1 In the case of two or more trainers finishing the day on the same amount of points the Dead Heat Rule applies. This is regardless of the number of outright winners trained by any of the Trainers.

11.3 Box Challenge

11.3.1 The "Box" is defined as the dog Box Number from which it jumps in the race. Betting is Win only and all bets are accepted on an all-in basis (i.e. no refunds for non-starters).

12. Incorrect Betting and General Information

12.1 If Dabble publishes, posts or quotes any incorrect betting information for any thoroughbred, harness or greyhound racing event, such as posting wrong odds or lines, then regardless of the cause of source of such error Dabble has the right to void each customer’s bet.

12.2 While Dabble takes all care in compiling betting information including the publication of form, Dabble cannot accept any responsibility for any errors.

13. Dabble Starting Price (DSP)

13.1 Dabble offers a Dabble Starting Price (SP) bet type on selected racing events where we expect to be offering fixed odds prior to the event starting.

13.2 'Dabble Starting Price' (DSP) bets will be paid out on the last price offered by Dabble prior to the race closing.

13.3 Where Dabble does not offer a fixed price we will settle all DSP bets on the on the average dividend declared by 2 or more Australian corporate bookmakers. Should no 2 Australian corporate bookmakers have a dividend declared we will settle on Victorian TAB dividend. If no Victorian TAB dividend then the race will be called an "non wagering race" all bets will be refunded.

13.4 If there is a late scratching at the barrier and the market is not reframed prior to the race closing the Dabble SP will be calculated by applying deductions to the last Dabble price offered. These deductions will be calculated on the last price offered of the scratched runner(s).

13.5 Dabble reserves the right to limit the stake on Dabble Starting Price bets and reserves the right to exclude customers from this price type at its discretion.

13.5 The number of places paid on DSP Place bets will be the same as the number of places that would be paid on a fixed price bet when the race closed.

13.6 Place bets placed at Dabble SP on a race that is reduced to 4 or less runners will be void and stakes refunded.

14. Same Race Multi

14.1. Same Race Multi bets are multi bets where two or more selections are placed on a runner winning, finishing top 2, top 3 or top 4 in the same event. Dabble’s Multi Bet Rules apply in respect of Same Race Multis.

14.2 Same Race Multi Bets are offered by Dabble on selected events at Dabble’s discretion.

a) Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, France, South Africa and Hong Kong Thoroughbred Racing

b) Australia Greyhound Racing

14.3 Same Race Multi Bets are available from the following times:

a) After 9:00am (local track time for that day’s racing) for Thoroughbred race meetings that start before 6pm (local track time for that day’s race)

b) After 11:30am (local track time for that day’s racing) for Thoroughbred race meetings that start after 6pm (local track time for that day’s race)

c) 2 hours before the race meeting start for Greyhound races.

14.4 Same Race Multibet odds are calculated based on the relationships between the selections in the bet and not by a simple multiplication of odds of each selection. The total odds will be clearly stated in the bet slip before a bet is placed.

14.5 In the event one or more selections are scratched in a single Same Race Multi bet, that Same Race Multi bet will be voided and stake refunded.

14.6 Same Race Multi Bets will only be available on races with a field size of Six or more. In the event a field is reduced to five or less runners, any Same Race Multi Bets struck prior to the reduction in field size will stand.

14.7 Dabble may, in its absolute discretion, change, suspend, restrict or cease to offer the Same Race Multi feature at any time without providing a reason or advance notification, even in scenarios where Same Race Multi has been previously advertised as being available at a particular time or in connection with a particular event.

15. Racing Exotics

15.1 Quinellas, Exactas, Trifectas and First Fours ('Dabble Racing Exotics') require field of Six or more to be offered. The races that offer these markets, and which of the markets are offered is at the sole discretion of Dabble.

15.2 Exotics are defined as follows:

a) A Quinella is when two (2) runners are selected to place first and second in any order.

b) An Exacta requires that the first two (2) place getters are nominated in correct order.

c) A Trifecta Bet requires nominating the first three (3) place getters in correct order.

d) A First Four Bet requires nominating the first four (4) place getters in correct order.

15.3 For the purposes of this section combination means “permutation” for exactas, trifectas and first four bets.

15.4 The amount invested on each combination (stake per combination) covered by a Dabble Racing Exotic is determined by the total stake amount of the Bet divided by the number of combinations.

15.5 The minimum amount that may be invested in a single exotic bet is 50 cent for each combination covered by the bet.

15.6 If one of the selected runners is declared a 'non-runner' or is scratched after the wager is confirmed, wagers will be refunded on every combination which includes the scratched runner and the total wager re-calculated without the scratched runner.

15.7 In the event of a Dead Heat for any or all of the place getters, there will be as many dividends as there are correct order combinations.

15.8 Where the bet includes a winning combination, that combination is paid out at the stake per combination multiplied by the declared dividend.

15.9 Dabble Racing Exotic payouts will be calculated using “Dabble Div” declared dividends. The Dabble Div is derived from a calculation of the probability of the winning combination occurring.  The Dabble Div formula uses the last price offered by Dabble before the market closed for the winning selections, the places they finished, the prices of other runners in the market, and the type of race meeting to calculate the dividend.

15.10 In the event a Dabble Div dividend is not declared, Victorian TAB exotic dividends will be substituted and declared as final dividends for the effected race.

16. Quaddies

General

16.1 Postponements & Abandonments

16.1.1 In the case of Abandonments, all Quaddie bets will stand, unless all four races of the Quaddie are abandoned in which case the customer’s Quaddie bet will be void and stakes refunded. If one or more races within a Quaddie are run, then that Quaddie bet will stand.

16.1.2 If any race that forms part of a Quaddie is abandoned, then all selections in that race are removed from the combinations calculation.

A basic example:
A customer places a Quaddie bet on Races 5,6,7,8 of a Greyhound meeting.

Races 5, 6, 7 are run, and winners declared for each race.

Race 8 is abandoned.

All selections from Race 8 will be removed from the customer’s Quaddie bet. The number of combinations in the bet are re-calculated based on those selections being removed (resulting a reduction in the number of combinations). There is no change to the Bet Stake amount based on Abandonments (no portion of the Stake is refunded to the customer), unless every race in the Quaddie is abandoned (see 16.1.1)

The Dabble Quaddie Dividend will be calculated based on the Dabble SP Win price of the three races that were run and resulted, and the Quaddie bet will be resulted as a three-leg bet type. If the customer had the winner in the first three legs, their Quaddie bet will be settled as a winner. If any of the legs in the first three races were settled as a loss, the Quaddie bet will remain settled as a losing bet.

16.1.3 A Quaddie bet will be void with stakes refunded in circumstances where:

a) all races within the Quaddie are abandoned (see 16.1.1)

b) all races within the Quaddie are postponed to a subsequent day;

c) any race within the Quaddie has its distance changed by more than 10%; or

d) any race within the Quaddie is moved to a different venue.

16.2 Acceptance of Bets

16.2.1 Quaddie bets require you to choose the winner of four races (designated as Legs) of the nominated Venue.

16.2.2 The minimum stake per combination is one cent.

16.3 Resulting & Settlement of Markets

16.3.1 The return on a Quaddie bet is given by multiplying the amount invested on each combination (stake per combination) by the dividend.

The stake per combination is found by dividing the total stake amount of the Quaddie bet by the number of combinations. To determine the number of combinations, multiply the number of selections in each leg of the Quaddie (e.g. 2x2x2x2 = 16 combinations).

Example: a $20 Quaddie bet is placed consisting of two selections in each of the four legs (16 combinations). The total stake is divided by the total number of combinations, to determine the stake per combination;

$20/16 = $1.25 stake per combination.

So if the Quaddie dividend was $500, the bet return would be $1.25 X $500 = $625.

16.3.2 In most cases there will only be 1 winning combination (the 4 individual winners of each leg of the Quaddie) however there will be multiple winning combinations where:

  • a winning Quaddie bet includes a race where 2 or more scratched runners are selected and the substitute wins the race, or 1 or more scratched runner/s plus the customer already had the substitute selected, and the substitute wins the race (see section 16.3 Scratchings & Substitutes below); or

  • 1 or more of the Quaddie races result in a dead-heat for first place; or

16.3.3 Dabble Quaddie dividends will be calculated using the Dabble SP Win price of each race/leg for a given Quaddie bet (See section 13 Dabble SP), the number of runners in each race, and the type of race meeting (Greyhound or Thoroughbred).

For a given Quaddie race/leg, a DSP Win price is required to settle the race to provide complete input into the Quaddie Dividend calculation. In determining the DSP Win price for a given Quaddie leg, where Dabble can not offer a fixed price based on our racing data provider, the DSP Win price will be derived based on the on the average dividend declared by 2 or more Australian corporate bookmakers. Should no 2 Australian corporate bookmakers have a Win dividend declared, the DSP Win price will be based on the Victorian TAB Win dividend. If no Victorian TAB Win dividend is declared then the race will be called an "non wagering race" all bets will be refunded. If that affected race is also a leg within a Quaddie bet, all affected Quaddie bets also be refunded.

In this example, the Dabble Quaddie Dividend calculated and paid was $2,590 per $1 stake per combination (per 100% Flexi).

The inputs into the Dabble Quaddie Dividend calculation are as follows:

  • In each race, the number of runners that started (there are 8 runners in this race in this example).

  • The DSP (Dabble Starting Price) of the winner of each leg of the Quaddie. The winning prices for the Quaddie legs in this example were $12, $4, $6 and $4.8.

  • The type of the race – in this case Greyhound Racing.

  • Data modelling, based on an extensive database of historical performances, to deliver a competitive Quaddie Dividend at an aggregate level.

Quaddie Dividends are not available until after the jump of the final leg/race of the Quaddie. After that point, the Dabble Quaddie Dividend model has all the information it needs to calculate a dividend, a Quaddie Dividend is produced, and Quaddie bets are subsequently resulted based on that dividend.

After the Quaddie has been settled, Quaddie dividends are visible on the Results page of any of the Quaddie legs for that meeting.

16.3.4 In the event there is a dead heat for first place, the winning number of Quaddie combinations will be determined by the number of runners who dead heat for 1st place, with multiple Quaddie dividends declared (i.e. if the 2nd leg of a Quaddie results in a dead heat for 1st place between two runners, then two Quaddie dividends will be declared; one with runner #1, and another with runner #2).

Basic Example of a Dead Heat Quaddie:

A Quaddie bet with 64 combination (2 x 2 x 4 x 4), $64 outlay ($1 per combination),

Quaddie selections:

Leg 1 – 1, 2

Leg 2 - 2, 4

Leg 3 - 3, 6, 8, 10

Leg 4 - 1, 3, 12, 14

Results:

Leg 1 – 2 wins

Leg 2 - 2 wins

Leg 3 - 8 wins

Leg 4 - 12 and 14 dead heat for 1st

Winning combinations:

2/2/8/12

2/2/8/14

Two dividends are calculated, one for each winning combination.

Dividend 1 (2/2/8/12) = $250

Dividend 2 (2/2/8/14) = $150

Payout:

The customer had both winning combinations in their bet

Payout = ($1 stake per combo x $250) + ($1 stake per combo x $150) = $250 + $150 = $400

16.4 Scratchings & Substitutes

16.4.1 If a runner is scratched after a Quaddie bet is placed, the runner(s) will be replaced by the substitute as described in Rule 16.4.2 below. Should a Quaddie bet contain multiple scratched runners in any individual race, all selected scratched runners will revert to the substitute.

16.4.2 The substitute will be determined by the shortest priced runner (the favourite) at the time betting closes (when the race jumps) as determined by Dabble SP. Should two or more runners be the equal shortest price (joint favourites) the runner with the lowest saddlecloth or rug number will be declared the favourite for the purpose of nominating the substitute for a Quaddie race. For example, if the two shortest priced runners are #1 and #7 and they are both $3 (joint favourites) when the race closes, runner #1 will be declared the substitute as it has the lowest runner/saddlecloth/rug number. The substitute details for a given bet will be clearly displayed to the customer in the Pending & Resulted bets area.

16.4.3 If a winning Quaddie bet has a leg or legs with multiple winning selections due to the substitute being awarded for scratchings and the substitute going on to win that race, each of the scratched runners (as well as the original substitute selection, if selected) will be treated as “winners” for that leg. This will increase the number of winning combinations of that bet. The customer will be paid the Quaddie dividend for every winning combination.

For example:

A Quaddie bet with 64 combinations (2 x 2 x 4 x 4), $64 outlay ($1 per combination), The Dabble Quaddie Dividend was calculated as $125.

Quaddie selections:

Leg 1 – 2, 5

Leg 2 - 4, 6

Leg 3 - 3, 5, 7, 12

Leg 4 - 2, 4, 9, 11

Results:

Leg 1 – 5 wins the race

Leg 2 – 4 wins the race

Leg 3 – 3 wins the race

Leg 4 - Runners 9 and 11 are scratched. Runner 4 is the Substitute for the race (lowest Dabble SP). Runner 4 wins the race

Payout:

The bet has the following combinations

5

4

3

4 (already had the 4 selected) / 4 (sub 1, replacing 9) / 4 (sub 2, replacing 11)

i.e.

5/4/3/4

5/4/3/4(sub 1)

5/4/3/4(sub 2)

Payout = $1 stake per combo * 3 winning combinations * $125 dividend = $375
